Mill Park Double at Morphettville

The Morphettville meeting on Saturday produced impressive wins for promising three year-old Mill Park graduates Soju Warrior and Smart Manoeuvre.

Prepared by Mark Kavanagh, rapid improver Soju Warrior relished a step up to 1550 metres at his third run back from a spell to bolt clear and win by nearly seven lengths.

The son of New Approach (IRE) won his maiden easily at Kilmore two starts back before over racing when beaten into third place at Ballarat, but did everything right for this impressive win.

A $65,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the Mill Park draft, Soju Warrior is a half-brother to stakes-winner Beluga Blue and smart winner Burgundy Blast being the third winner from three foals to race from Choice of Colours.

Stakes-placed twice at two, the Phillip Stokes-trained Smart Missile filly Smart Manoeuvre was overdue to break through for a win.

Resuming from a spell she was favourite for the 1300 metre maiden and overcame the outside gate in a field of 12 to win by half a length.

Retained to race by Mill Park and partners, Smart Manoeuvre is the first winner for stakes-placed Tale of the Cat (USA) mare Furline, a daughter of Group II winner Umaline.

Mill Park sold the current yearling from Furline, a filly by I Am Invincible for $500,000 at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January.

Gogo Grace Looks Good

Promising New Approach (IRE) filly Gogo Grace resumed from a spell with an easy victory at Morphettville last Saturday and will seek Black Type in coming weeks which could provide a real boost for her yearling half-brother headed to the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale next month for Mill Park.

Prepared by Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas, Gogo Grace competed against some of the better fillies last spring, but looks a much stronger filly this time around.

She couldn’t have been more impressive in cruising clear to win the 1100 metre sprint by two and three-quarter lengths against older mares.

It was her second win from seven starts and the best is still to come.

Bred by Harry Perks and retained to race in partnership, Gogo Grace is the first winner for stakes-winner Starmon, whose current yearling colt by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) will be offered as Lot 371 by Mill Park at Inglis Easter.

 

Mill Park Bring the Magic to Adelaide

A busy sales season for leading South Australian nursery Mill Park continues in Adelaide next week when their draft arrives for the 2017 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale on March 13, 14 and 15.

The Watson family owned and run Mill Park have an unparalleled track record for success with past stars include Fawkner, Southern Speed, Happy Trails, Rebel Raider, Serious Speed, Captain Sonador, Go Indy Go… the list goes on, with the latest stakes-winner to emerge being progressive four year-old Mail It In.

A $50,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the 2014 Mill Park draft, Mail It In won the Listed SAJC Birthday Cup last month and has won over $330,000 in prizemoney.

He will seek to improve his record this Saturday in the Group III SAJC Lord Reims Stakes, while another current Mill Park graduate in Reldas will line up in the Listed VRC ATA Bob Hoysted Handicap at Flemington.

Another Reset Stakes-Winner Sold by Mill Park

Renowned South Australian nursery Mill Park have had a great deal of success in selling the progeny of Darley quiet achiever Reset through the deeds of multiple Group I winners Fawkner and Rebel Raider and wrote another chapter of stakes success at Morphettville on Saturday with another of his sons in Mail It In.

A $50,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale purchase from the draft of Mill Park, the Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas trained Mail It In has been racing consistently right through the summer and broke through for a well-deserved Black Type win in the Listed SAJC Birthday Cup.

Sent out favourite and ridden a treat by Claire Lindop from barrier one, Mail It In raced right away to win the 2020 metre feature by three and three-quarter lengths.

A model of consistency, the four year-old has the impressive record of six wins and 14 placings from 28 starts with prizemoney topping $330,000.

The 31st stakes-winner for Reset, Mail It In is a half-brother to Group III winner Daytona Grey and is one of seven winners from terrific producer Southern Rose, who sadly died last year.

The previous race at Morphettville on Saturday was also won by a Mill Park graduate with seven year-old Heart of a Lion still going strong to win his ninth race and take his earnings past the $300,000 mark.

A $42,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase his trainer Lloyd Kennewell, stakes-placed Heart of a Lion is a half-brother to Group I winner Happy Trails and Group III winner Danish Twist.

Mill Park are now set for a busy couple of weeks with a draft of six lovely youngsters for the 2017 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale and a further 14 for the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.

 

Impressive Maiden Win for Soju Warrior

Opening his account with an easy victory at Kilmore on Thursday was promising three year-old Soju Warrior, a $65,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the Mill Park draft.

Prepared by Mark Kavanagh, Soju Warrior was resuming from a spell after two inconclusive runs last winter and made it look all too easy.

The son of New Approach (IRE) forged clear as favourite to win the 1100 metre maiden by three lengths.

Soju Warrior is a half-brother to stakes-winner Beluga Blue and smart winner Burgundy Blast being the third winner from three foals to race from Choice of Colours.

Mill Park are currently preparing yearlings for the Inglis Premier and Easter Yearling Sales as well as the Adelaide Magic Millions.

 

100% Clearance At 2017 Magic Millions for Mill Park

The 2017 Magic Millions Yearling Sale is now complete for Mill Park with seven yearlings offered and all sold for a total of $1,960,000 with an average price of $280,000.


Top seller at $500,000 was an I Am Invincible filly from Furline (pictured above) that was bought by a partnership of Stonestreet/Peter Leidel/Aquis/Blue Sky Bloodstock, while not far behind were two lovely colts by Medaglia D’Oro (USA) and I Am Invincible for $350,000 each.

The Medaglia D’Oro colt from Carolina Bella went the way of Victorian owner breeder Peter Devitt and the I Am Invincible colt from You’re Discreet was bought by China Horse Club/Newgate TS/Winstar.

Debut Winner for Dream Ahead Sold by Mill Park

The Mark Kavanagh stable produced a debut winner at Werribee on Thursday for Dream Ahead (USA) with a stylish first up victory for Rose Ahead, a $52,000 Magic Millions Adelaide purchase from the draft of Mill Park.

Easy in the market, the three year-old found the line well to take the 1100 metre maiden by three-quarters of a length.

Rose Ahead is a half-sister to stakes-winner Daytona Grey and is the seventh winner from terrific producer Southern Rose who died last year.

She is the 13th winner this season for Emirates Park shuttler Dream Ahead, who is doing a good job with his oldest progeny now three year-olds.

Christmas Winners Sold by Mill Park

Mill Park sold winners have brought Christmas cheer to their owners over the holidays with Mail It In scoring at Gawler on Christmas Eve, while improving three year-old Dream First opened her account at Mornington on Wednesday.

Trained by Leon and Troy Corstens, Dream First has always shown good ability having placed in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Preview at two and raced away to win over 1200 metres by a length and a half.


A $90,000 Magic Millions purchase (pictured above as a yearling) for Malua Bloodstock/ Bahen Bloodstock, the daughter of Dream Ahead (USA) is from former good metro winner Tobouggie Woogie, a half-sister to Group II winner Majestic Music from the family of Group I winner Serious Speed.

Sadly, Tobouggie Woogie died in 2014 and her last foal, a Sepoy filly was sold by Mill Park at the 2016 Magic Millions fetching $150,000.

Scoring his fifth win on Christmas Eve was four year-old Reset gelding Mail It In, a $50,000 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale purchase from the draft of Mill Park.

Prepared by Leon MacDonald and Andrew Gluyas, Mail It In won by a length and a half over 1700 metres and has now won just shy of $250,000.

He is a half-brother to Group III winner Daytona Grey and is the sixth winner from terrific producer Southern Rose.

Winning Hat-Trick for Girl Sunday

The OnTrack Thoroughbreds colours shot to fame aboard dual Group I winner Brazen Beau and have been seen to advantage in recent weeks aboard progressive Encosta de Lago mare Girl Sunday, who posted her third successive metropolitan win when scoring at Rosehill on Saturday.

A $100,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Mill Park draft, prepared by Gerald Ryan, Girl Sunday sat off the leaders and finished too well to take the 1400 mere contest by three-quarters of a length.



A big filly that has been given time to mature, she has now had 10 starts for five wins and a second with prizemoney just shy of $175,000.

Girl Sunday is the first winner for stakes-winning Cape Cross (IRE) mare Pleasantsundaygirl, a grand-daughter of Group III winner Furama Nights.

The Mill Park team are gearing up for the 2017 sales season with the first stop being Magic Millions at the Gold Coast with a draft of eight yearlings.
