From the second southern hemisphere bred crop of Swettenham Stud’s G1-winning High Chaparral stallion Toronado, the sire of five stakes horses from his first northern hemisphere crop, this grey colt is the first foal of the G1 Schweppes Oaks third placed Bahamas, a winning daughter of Teofilo.

Bahamas, a daughter of the multiple stakes winner St Trinians, and a half-sister to the Listed placed Exodus (Bernardini), went back to Toronado producing a colt in her second season at stud before being covered by Invincible Spirit’s G1-winning son Territories.

Sons of High Chaparral, like Toronado, have produced 62 stakes performers already including G1 winners Inference, La Bella Diosa, Sopressa, D’Argento and Atyaab, interestingly all of the G1 winners are Australian-bred, while Teofilo as a broodmare sire has produced 55 winners highlighted by four stakes performers.

This filly is by Fastnet Rock’s G1-winning son Foxwedge, the sire of three individual G1 winners to date from a handful of crops to race. Mill Park Stud has a good relationship with Foxwedge, having sold Run Fox Run to South African connections a few years back with the now 3yo filly currently unbeaten after two runs in South Africa and destined for black type racing.

Lot 182 is the third foal of the stakes placed, winner of four Family Portrait, an Excellent Art daughter of the well-related stakes performer Amen Ruby, a three-quarter-sister to Listed winner Personal Ensign, who is the dam of speedy filly Fontiton, a winner of the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude.

Excellent Art as a broodmare sire has produced three stakes horses so far highlighted by the dual G3 winner Treasuring.

Noondie has had one to race, a winner, the Mill Park raised and Inglis Premier yearling sale sold Booker (Written Tycoon), a G2 and G3 winner who was a cracking fourth in the G1 Oakleigh Plate, when beaten less than half a length by Russian Revolution.

Flying Spur as a broodmare sire has recorded 150 stakes performers, highlighted by seven individual G1 winners, while the similar Choisir x Flying Spur pedigree cross has produced 10 winners from 16 runners led by the Listed winner Choice Words.

Since the catalogue went to print, the current 2yo of the mare Dalasan (Dalakhani) has won two from two, both impressively, while the 3yo Liberty Lover (Rebel Raider) won in January by a length and a half and has since recorded a further two placed performances.

From an international black type family, this colt is out of a Kitten Joy’s mare, who as a broodmare sire has recorded 12 stakes performers including Listed winners Polar Vortex, Grecian Fire, Admiralty Pier and In The Mood.

The full-brother to this colt was sold last year for $340,000 to the China Horse Club at the Inglis Premier yearling sale, with the 2yo now named Just Stars in the Lindsay Park stable.

Stratum as a broodmare sire has recorded 66 winners, five black type performers led by G3 winner Moss Trip, with the Zoustar x Stratum pedigree cross having produced two winners from two runners to date.
